A blowout on I-285 or I-75 is stressful. Here's exactly what to do — and how to get back on the road fast.
A flat tire on a busy Atlanta highway is one of the most stressful situations a driver can face. Here's a step-by-step guide to handle it safely and get back on the road quickly.
When you feel a blowout, grip the steering wheel firmly with both hands and ease off the accelerator slowly. Do not brake hard — this can cause you to lose control. Let the car slow naturally while steering toward the shoulder.
Activate your hazard lights immediately. Pull onto the shoulder or an exit ramp — the further from traffic, the safer. If you can make it to a parking lot or side street, do so.
Once stopped, keep your hazard lights on. If you have road flares or reflective triangles, place them 50–100 feet behind your vehicle. Stay behind the guardrail if possible — never stand between your car and traffic.
If you don't feel safe changing the tire yourself (or don't have a spare), call Fixed in Minutes. We respond to roadside tire emergencies across Atlanta Metro — typically within 30 minutes.

Most spare tires (the small "donut" type) are rated for 50 miles at 50 mph maximum. Get your regular tire repaired or replaced as soon as possible.
